It seems that Meghan Markle is following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, who recently showed a major shift in body language.
Last week, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, attended an event in Venice, California, celebrating the launch of a new haircare line, Highbrow Hippie. Her involvement wasn’t a huge surprise because 1) Markle is an investor of the brand and 2) it was co-founded by her colorist and longtime friend, Kadi Lee.
Although the duchess is no stranger to public events, she has recently scaled back on outings that put her directly in the public spotlight. Therefore, I expected Markle to show at least a bit of discomfort or at the very least nervousness, since it was a highly publicized event. Much to my delight, that wasn’t the case.
The royal's body language showed her to be calm, cool and collected while supporting her friend. Markle began with open body language—she turned her shoulders toward the camera and wrapped her left arm around Lee.
After a few photos, the duchess turned away from the camera and angled her body toward her friend, which indicated that Markle is more in her comfort zone when physically close to a loved one. She even positioned her right arm on Lee’s shoulder, showing a mutual support between herself and her friend, as she further closed off her body language to the photographers.
The body language she showed toward Lee proved that she didn’t want her own natural star power to impact Lee’s big night. She graciously let Lee be the center of attention in the photos. And although Markle's closed off body might appear to be slightly uncomfortable, it could just as easily indicate that she wanted to support her friend fully. The fact that Markle didn’t pose for solo photos only solidified the theory that she and Lee were a source of comfort for one another and that she didn't want to take the spotlight away from Lee.
