It's a battle of the moms in the new Maleficent sequel trailer.
Disney just unveiled the official trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, giving audiences a look at the main plot for Jolie’s villain and her ultimate foe—played by Michelle Pfeiffer.
When the full cast was announced in February, we learned Pfeiffer would take on the role of Prince Phillip’s (Harrison Dickinson) mother, Queen Ingrith. And in this first clip, we are finally seeing the queen and Maleficent come face to face for a battle over Elle Fanning's Aurora.
The film picks up exactly five years after the events of 2014’s Maleficent and delves into the complex relationship between the fallen fairy Maleficent and her goddaughter princess Aurora as she fights to marry the man she loves.
Prince Phillip asks for Aurora’s hand in marriage and brings her to meet his mother (who is looking to cause a rift between the two). Mothers-in-law, amIrite?
In addition to Jolie and Fanning, a number of familiar faces are returning for the sequel, including Sam Riley (Diaval), Lesley Manville (Flittle), Juno Temple (Thistlewit) and Imelda Staunton (Knotgrass).
We also get a glimpse of Jolie's fairy family, played by new face Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Lion King). "You spent years caring for a human," says the horned creature played by Ejiofor. "Now it's time to care for your own."
The movie soars into theaters on October 18, 2019.
