If looks can kill, then Lupita Nyong’o’s latest look is positively deadly.
The 36-year-old Oscar winner hit the premiere of her new film, Us, wearing a transparent plastic Balenciaga jacket with protruding spikes. Needless to say, she looked sharp…literally.
She belted the Olivier Rousteing–designed oversize blazer, which premiered at the Balmain fall 2019 show, with a belt from the collection emblazoned with a big ol’ B in the middle. Nyong’o brought a more grounded and utilitarian element to her trés punk rock ensemble by pairing the Sid Vicious meets Grace Jones–esque jacket with a crisp white button-down dress.
But the eye-popping details didn’t stop there. Nyong’o completed the ensemble with Aquazzura “Shine” sandals that feature T-straps made of PVC and metallic elements festooned with crystals. Fancy, right? Well, they cost a cool $995. She also added a clear clutch that mimicked her jacket and a scissor ring from ColoringPins jewelry to her outfit. Although scissors may seem random, they appear to be a major theme in the film.
Obviously, a (literally) killer outfit deserves a killer beauty look. So, Nyong’o opted for an all scarlet pallet on everything from her lip color to her eye shadow and eyebrows. She kept her hair pulled back in braids.
Nyong’o has been serving up scary (good) looks in the build-up to her brand-new Jordan Peele–directed horror film. Taking inspiration from the film’s genre, Nyong’o stepped out for the London premiere earlier this week rocking black lipstick, a bold smoky eye and red contact lenses.
All we can say is keep serving up these fresh looks, Lupita. Just maybe keep your distance while you’re wearing those spikes.
