King Charles’s attendance at the Gladiator II premiere made headlines for many reasons. The monarch attended the event by himself because his wife, Queen Camilla, was recovering from a chest infection. The king also had a somewhat awkward interaction with A-list actor Denzel Washington. But nothing compares to the way he spoke about his wife’s achievements.
King Charles Says This Queen Camilla Movie Made Him Weep
He was "reduced to tears"
Earlier this month, the 76-year-old monarch attended the premiere of Gladiator II at the Leicester Square Odeon. King Charles met several famous faces at the star-studded event, including actor Damian Lewis.
According to Hello! magazine, the duo had a conversation about Queen Camilla’s powerful documentary, Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors, which premiered on November 11. King Charles revealed that he was very touched by the program.
“It’s very moving, isn’t it?” His Majesty said. “I think BAFTA are interested in it.”
In another conversation, the monarch admitted that he was “reduced to tears” while watching Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors, which highlights the queen’s fierce advocacy for domestic abuse survivors. He added: “I really am very proud.”
This conversation came shortly after King Charles had an interesting run-in with Washington. When the actor greeted the royal, he wasn’t exactly sure of the proper royal protocol. As the monarch approached, the two shook hands as the actor stammered, “I didn’t know if I was supposed to grab you or not, but my pleasure.” Washington’s body language confirmed that he was a nervous wreck.
On the bright side, King Charles was so focused on raving about his wife, he probably forgot all about the awkward meet-cute.
