Someone get candles and a cake! No, this isn't for a birthday—King Charles III, 74, just celebrated one year since his accession to the throne, and he’s reflecting on that first trip around the sun in a brand-new Instagram post.
King Charles Reflects on His First Year as Monarch in New Instagram Post
One year on the throne
To commemorate the occasion, a video was posted to the official royal family Instagram account highlighting Charles’s first year as king of the United Kingdom. “Looking back on an extraordinary year…,” the caption read. “Thank you for all your warm welcomes and generous support.”
The video shows just how much has occurred in the past 365 days. Turns out, King Charles has had 571 engagements across 79 regions and all four nations of the U.K., as well as two state visits, over 1000 honors awarded for service and achievement, 80 receptions and of course, one unforgettable coronation.
His Majesty became king on September 8, 2022, when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96.
On the anniversary of his mom’s death, King Charles shared a post to Instagram, reflecting on her legacy and their relationship.
“In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s death and my Accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service and all she meant to so many of us,” the monarch wrote. “I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all.” He signed the post with his typical signature: “Charles R.”
It's been a whirlwind year, Charles. We can't wait to see what’s in store for year two.
