Why King Charles and Queen Camilla Are Stepping Out of the Spotlight After Latest Outings

It looks like royally-obsessed fans will be seeing less of His Royal Highness King Charles and Queen Camilla for a little while. Earlier this morning, the king, 74, and queen, 76, attended the 140th annual Sandringham Flower Show, and this will reportedly be the last royal engagement the husband and wife will participate in for the remainder of the summer.  So, what is the reason behind the short hiatus?

While speaking with Royally Obsessed podcast co-hosts, Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie, they were able to share a little bit of insight into the couple’s temporary break from royal duties.

“Their Majesties’ final joint engagement of the summer means King Charles and Queen Camilla will soon be heading to Balmoral Castle in Scotland, just as the late Queen Elizabeth II did,” Fiorito shared with us. The late monarch would often spend her summers at the royal residence for the months of August, September and even early October for the majority of her reign. And His and Her Majesty are expected to “honor her legacy by copying his late mother’s traditional summer holiday.”

Bowie also chimed in and said this short break was “expected” from the royal couple. As for what royal fans should expect over the next few months? The Royally Obsessed co-host revealed, “We'll likely see reports of several members of the royal family joining them at Balmoral, too, during their stay. [Prince] William and Kate [Middleton] and their children, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and more.”

Bowie added, “As for how they'll spend their time, there’s typically a lot of grouse shooting, picnics and countryside walks. That said, we should see the king and queen pop up from time to time for public engagements—for example, Charles is expected to attend the Highland Games in Caithness on August 5 and the Braemar Games in early September, too.”
