One thing I look forward to every December is the unveiling of royal family Christmas cards. Will they feature never-before-seen photos? Rare throwbacks? Or perhaps an elegant shot of the royals in full regal attire—like King Charles and Queen Camilla's festive holiday card from 2023. I never know what to expect, which is why I couldn't help but pause when I saw the monarch's latest addition on my social feed.

Over the weekend, Buckingham Palace unveiled the new Christmas card, which includes a photo of the king and queen wearing color-coordinated outfits as they pose in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. While Camilla dons a blue dress by Fiona Clare, King Charles stands beside her in a gray suit and blue tie. The caption reads, "Christmas is coming…Their Majesties are pleased to share this year’s Christmas card, taken by @milliepilkingtonphotography."

In addition to the photo, the physical card includes a short message that reads, "Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year."

Per usual, royal fans filled the comments with well wishes for the king and queen. One follower wrote, "Merry Christmas to His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla. I know it's been a heavy year for the royal family, and I pray for happier times in 2025." The couple's photographer, Pilkington, also took to the comments to express her gratitude. She wrote, "Happy Christmas to Their Majesties—truly honored that they should choose one of my photos for their card."

If the pic looks familiar, then perhaps it's because you've seen another variation of the photo back in April, when the palace released a statement about the king's return to his royal duties following his cancer diagnosis.

The statement reads, "His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis. To help mark this milestone, The King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment center next Tuesday, where they will meet medical specialists and patients. This visit will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead."

Fortunately, His Majesty has since made multiple public appearances, including the recent Amir of Qatar state visit and the London premiere of Gladiator II.

Now that I've seen the king and queen's official Christmas card, I'll be patiently waiting for Prince William and Kate Middleton to release theirs.
