Just hours after Kensington Palace released an official statement about  Kate Middleton’s planned (but previously unannounced) abdominal surgery, royal fans are now learning of a new health update involving her father-in-law, King Charles

Today, Buckingham Palace released a statement about the monarch, 75, who has apparently sought treatment for an enlarged prostate. According to People, the statement reads, “His Majesty’s condition is benign, and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure. The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”

An anonymous royal source told the publication that the king wanted to share his diagnosis to “encourage men who may be experiencing symptoms to get checked.” While His Majesty is recovering from his treatment, he will be “capable of fulfilling his constitutional requirements” during this time. (We commend you for your dedication, Charles.)

As we mentioned before, this latest announcement comes after Princess Catherine’s surprise surgery was revealed earlier today. While certainly not confirmed, it’s possible the timing of the king’s announcement could be intentional to help diffuse the more serious news of the Princess of Wales’s surgery.

In a newly released statement shared on the Instagram account, Catherine shares with her husband, Prince William, Kensington Palace revealed that the mother of three is currently in the hospital recovering from abdominal surgery performed on Tuesday.

It reads, “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in the hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

Sending our best wishes to the royal fam at this time.
