In honor of Armed Forces Day (which took place on Saturday, June 24), King Charles, 74, and his wife, Queen Camilla, 75, released an honorary photo slideshow on social media, which is filled with throwback snaps of royal family members showing their appreciation for the men and women of the British Armed Forces.

However, there was one photograph in particular that instantly caught our attention—a chilling photo of the monarch getting emotional. The first photo included in the slide (shared on the royal family’s Instagram page) featured a personal message from the King of England. (FYI, Armed Forces Day honors those who served in the British Armed Forces.)

The message said: “Today provides a particularly valuable opportunity to acknowledge publicly the selfless service and sacrifice made each day of our Armed Forces personnel to keep this nation safe.” King Charles signed the letter with his unique marker: Charles R

But, it was the second slide that really stuck with us. The haunting photo shows King Charles (who is the Head of the Armed Forces) giving a teary-eyed salute while dressed in a navy blue uniform and honorary medals.

The caption read, “The King has sent warm wishes to the entire Armed Forces community in a message to mark Armed Forces Day.”

This is the second time this year the royal family has released a hauntingly beautiful photograph on social media. The first one dates back to only a few months ago when royal admirers saw a stunning photo of Prince William, 41, standing alone in silence during an Anzac Day ceremony.

In honor of the occasion, the Prince of Wales wore a dark navy trench coat with a matching pair of slacks and black loafers.

Quite the moving images.
