In case you didn’t know, David and Victoria Beckham have a long-standing relationship with the British royal family that spans decades. In fact, David has openly talked about his close relationship with Prince William. (FYI, the retired soccer player attended the 2022 Earthshot Prize Awards in Boston to show his support for the Prince of Wales.) And it appears that the former athlete has become quite chummy with another member of the royal fam.

While King Charles still undergoes medical treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, the 75-year-old monarch attended the King’s Foundation Awards at St James’s Palace on Tuesday, June 11.

According to the official website, the King’s Foundation aims to “provide holistic solutions to challenges facing the world today” and change the way people live by rebuilding communities. The annual awards ceremony is held to honor those who have contributed to the foundation’s growth and mission.

David and His Majesty were all smiles as they conversed at the event. During their chat (per Hello! Magazine), King Charles mentioned the English soccer team’s “bad luck” in reference to the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament. To put the king’s mind at rest, David reassured him that the team is just “warming up, we’ll be ok.”

As it turns out, David Beckham and King Charles are actually friends. On June 1, the 49-year-old former athlete was named the new celebrity ambassador for The King’s Foundation. While visiting the king’s private residence in Highgrove, the two connected over their shared passion for beekeeping.

“Having developed a love for the countryside I’m also on a personal mission to learn more about rural skills which is so central to the foundation’s work,” David shared, according to Hello! Magazine. He went on to share that it was “inspiring” to learn more about the monarch’s work for the foundation—and they even swapped beekeeping tips!
