Buckingham Palace Just Shared a Rare Personal Statement from King Charles’s Brother

I can't remember the last time he spoke out publicly

As a longtime royal admirer, I’ve become accustomed to members of the British royal family addressing their fans (as well as the general public) by posting a personal statement on social media. King Charles, 75, has done it countless times. Even Prince William, 42, has posted his fair share of personal messages along with his initial and a handful of joint statements with his wife, Kate Middleton, 42.

Most recently, a royal fam member took to X (formerly Twitter) to wish Team Great Britain the best of luck in the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games. And I was quite surprised by who wrote it: King Charles’s brother, Prince Edward. On the royal family’s official X account, the Duke of Edinburgh, who also happens to be the patron of the British Paralympic Association, took a moment to show his support for the Team GB athletes competing in this year’s Games.

The message read, “To all members of the @ParalympicsGB team heading for Paris, whether athletes, officials or staff, I want to wish you the very best of luck at the Paralympic Games.” And the duke, 60, signed the note with his royal title.

Prince Edwards is not the first royal to send an encouraging message to Team GB ahead of the Paralympic Games. Earlier this week, Prince William and Princess Catherine broke their summer holiday silence to release a joint statement on social media, reading, “Looking forward to another few weeks of incredible sport! Wishing the very best luck to our @paralympicsgb_official athletes and all those competing at #Paris2024.” And the royal couple signed the note with their initials: “W & C.”
