Father’s Day may only come around once a year, but actress Kerry Washington will never miss an opportunity to talk about how much she loves her dad, Earl Washington, on the internet.

This past Sunday, the Scandal alum, 47, posted a throwback photo of herself and her dad on Instagram. The grainy snap snows a young Kerry smiling from ear to ear as she sits in her father’s lap wearing a red and white sweat suit. Meanwhile, Earl beams while holding his daughter in their old home in the Bronx, where Kerry was born and raised.

In the caption, the Little Fires Everywhere star began her Father’s Day tribute with a quote, which read, “There will always be a few people who have the courage to love what is untamed inside us. One of those men is my father. — Alison Lohman.”

Kerry continued, “Happy #FathersDay to - the OG dreamer and story weaver, the Dad Joke king who finds laughter even in our darkest hours, the big hearted jefe who’s never met a stranger, the Jet, the Omega, the lake conquerer, the man, the myth, the Legend, our Pop Pop - my dad.”

Before her first memoir, Thicker than Water, hit bookstore shelves back in September 2023, Kerry sat down for an exclusive interview with People and shared how she felt after discovering that Earl wasn’t her biological father.

In the book, the actress details how her parents, Earl and Valerie, told her the truth before she was set appear on PBS’s Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr., where celebrities learn about their family ancestry. During the interview, Kerry said that finding out the truth “turned my world upside down.” She continued, “When I got this information, I was like, ‘Oh. I now know my story.’”

Keep the family throwbacks coming, Kerry.
