Kathy Najimy May Be Known for ‘Hocus Pocus,’ But She Gets ‘Way Over the Top’ About Christmas

When we think of Kathy Najimy, we usually picture one of her most iconic roles: Mary Sanderson in Hocus Pocus. Najimy, along with her co-stars Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker, helped to define the Halloween season with their classic ’90s comedy.

However, while we often associate Najimy with her witchy role, it turns out that she's actually a big fan of Christmas. In fact, the 64-year-old actress stars in the recently-released Netflix rom-com Single All the Way, where she portrays the Christmas-loving mom, Carole.

During a discussion with PureWow, Najimy talked about the parallels between herself and her character, revealing that she really dives into the winter holiday. “Carole and I have a lot of places where we intersect,” she revealed. “We both are way over the top about Christmas.”

In the movie, Najimy's character requests that her family call her “Christmas Carole” all throughout the holiday, and she has other comical moments, like when she makes a sign for her son's arrival that says “Sleigh Queen.” So it's fun to discover that Najimy gets equally excited when the yuletide season rolls around.

Meanwhile, Carole is also very close with her son, Peter (Michael Urie), in the film, and Najimy talked about those parallels, too. “We both are gently and lovingly in our kids' lives,” she said. “And I think my 24-year-old daughter, Samia—who is the best person I ever met—would agree. But, not in a bad way.”

Before starring in Single All the Way, Najimy featured in other Christmas flicks, like the Hallmark television movie A Christmas Melody and Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas.

Seems like Najimy is just queen of all the holidays.
