Ever since Kate Middleton stepped out at Trooping the Colour in June, royal watchers have been eagerly awaiting her next official appearance. Though she made it clear she’d be continuing to take it easy and “wasn’t out of the woods yet” in regard to her treatment for cancer, the Princess of Wales noted that she also hoped to join for a few additional public engagements over the summer.

Now, this just in from Kensington Palace: The men’s singles final on Sunday, July 14, at Wimbledon will officially be Kate’s next stop.

Of course, anticipation was high that we’d see Kate at the ladies’ singles final today, but with this announcement, it appears her attendance at the world-famous tennis tournament will be limited to Sunday only.

Still, based on a recent interview for Telegraph Sport with Debbie Jevans, the chair of the All England Lawn and Tennis Club, which hosts Wimbledon, it sounds like every possible accommodation would be made should the Princess of Wales decide to show up. “We don’t know what we don’t know,” she remarked in terms of if and when Kate would appear at the tournament given her health. “All we’ve said is that we’ll work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible.”

Kate has been the club’s patron since 2016, when the late Queen Elizabeth II passed the role along to her granddaughter-in-law. The Princess of Wales adores playing tennis herself, so the royal job was a natural fit.

In 2023, Kate gleefully attended numerous Wimbledon matches including a nail-biter of a men’s single’s final between Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic at which she also handed out the trophy to the victor. (The match was also a stand-out for Princess Charlotte’s chic sunglasses, #TBT.)

Will Kate be joined by Prince William tomorrow? How about Prince George and Princess Charlotte? Heck, will 2024 mark Prince Louis’s first official appearance in the royal box? No matter what, we’ll be watching—to see Kate, but also to find out who takes home the tennis crown.
