Kate Middleton Deployed This Signature Duchess Move Last Night at the National Portrait Gallery

ICYMI, a lot went down at last night's spring 2019 gala at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Not only did Kate Middleton debut a gorgeous spring style—and possible royal re-wear—the duchess displayed a signature royal move, too.

She carried her clutch in her left hand.

The reason for doing this is simple—and recently outlined by Beaumont Etiquette founder Myka Meier: Basically, it's all about keeping that right hand free to meet and greet and shake hands with whoever they royally encounter in the room.

In other words, when Kate made her royal entrance last night, her left hand carried her bag, so her right hand could shake the hand of everyone she was hobnobbing with at this fancy black-tie affair.
