Prince William and Kate Middleton were practicing their hosting skills last night.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held a reception at Buckingham Palace on Monday on behalf of Queen Elizabeth to mark the U.K.-Africa Investment Summit, taking place in London.
During the event, the couple welcomed heads of state and government, their spouses or partners, delegate members of the U.K. government and U.K. and African business figures.
“The summit will demonstrate the strength of the relationship between the U.K. and Africa, showcase and promote the breadth and quality of investment opportunities across Africa, and highlight the U.K.’s commitment to supporting economic development in Africa, including through the creation of jobs and new partnerships,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.
Accompanying the royal couple were Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex (who was celebrating her 55th birthday). Edward, Prince Charles’s younger brother, and his wife often take on official royal duties on behalf of the Queen. Perhaps Her Majesty asked the duo to step up in place of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry (although, we aren’t sure if the duke and duchess were ever scheduled to attend).
For the occasion, Middleton opted for a red Aurora sequin gown from Needle & Thread, while William looked dapper in a black suit (and matching red tie). Unfortunately for us, Middleton’s gown is currently sold out (but here’s one similar while we wait for it to be back in stock).
Looks like, amidst all the royal family drama, things are business as usual for this duo.
