The Real Reason Kate Middleton Wore Three Poppy Pins During Remembrance Sunday, According to New Report

Kate Middleton was among a handful of royals who took part in last week’s Remembrance Day services. And we couldn’t help but notice one major detail about her ensemble for Remembrance Sunday.

This year, Sunday’s special events were attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Sophie Countess of Wessex, Prince Edward and more. Unfortunately, Queen Elizabeth was unable to attend. In a message from Buckingham Palace, it was revealed that Her Majesty had sprained her back prior to the ceremony.

During the services, members of the royal fam sported all-black ensembles and accessorized with poppy brooches, which honor those who have died at war. However, if you noticed that Middleton wore multiple poppies on her lapel, there's a likely explanation. While it hasn’t been confirmed, Hello! magazine theorizes that multiple brooches represent the number of family members who have fought and died in wars.

Per the outlet, the duchess’s great-grandmother had three brothers who were killed during World War I. It’s also important to note that the mother of three sported three poppies during last year’s engagement, while Her Majesty donned five. In addition to the fallen family members theory, some believe when someone wears multiple brooches, it represents the represents each branch of the military: the Army, the Navy, the Royal Air Force, the Civil Defence and women. (Hence, why the queen wore five.)

Whatever the reason, we love that the royal family puts so much thought into the smallest details.
