Kate Middleton Used Her Go-To Parenting Move During First Official Outing Since Queen Elizabeth’s Passing

Kate Middleton just demonstrated her go-to parenting move during her first official outing since Queen Elizabeth’s passing.

Today, the Princess of Wales stopped by Holyhead with her husband, Prince William, to visit the RNLI Lifeboat Station. Not only did Middleton pay tribute to Princess Diana with her outfit, but she also used a familiar technique while chatting with a group of children. The appearance was documented on the Prince and Princess of Wales’s Instagram account.

The first photo showed Middleton crouching down while talking to a child. The parenting move can foster open communication and create a comfortable environment for children. The Princess of Wales has used it on her own kids, as well as people she meets in public.

The slideshow also featured three other pictures—one showed the royal couple shaking hands with volunteers, another documented a candid moment and the last was a close-up of Prince William.

The caption read, “Diolch Anglesey!,” which translates to “Thanks Anglesey!” in Welsh.

It continued, “What a welcome, it’s great to be back [Flag of Wales emoji] It’s been wonderful spending time chatting to members of the local community and meeting these brave @rnli volunteers who help keep people safe on the North Wales shores.”

Middleton wore an all-black outfit and paired it with a bold red coat that honored the country’s national flag. The Spencer Red Recycled Wool Blend Snaffle-Detail Coat was made by LK Bennett—therefore, it was likely a subtle tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, because the “Spencer” coat was inspired by the late royal (whose maiden name was Spencer).

The surprise outing marked the couple’s first official appearance since Queen Elizabeth II passed away at age 96. Although they attended the state funeral, they didn’t carry out any duties during the mourning period, which ended today.

Sending virtual hugs to the Prince and Princess of Wales as they begin this next chapter without the queen.
