It's been a whopping eight years since Kate Middleton officially became a royal on April 29, 2011. But—total shocker—in all that time, she's actually never embarked on a solo outing with HRH Queen Elizabeth. (We were pretty surprised, too.)
Today, all that changed as the Duchess of Cambridge joined the queen on a visit to King's College London, where they reopened the newly renovated Bush House, and without another royal (not Prince William, not Prince Philip) in sight.
For background, about a year after her wedding, Kate *did* step out with Queen Eliz in Leicester, England, as part of the queen's Diamond Jubilee tour. The caveat: Prince Philip was there, so solo outing? Nope, doesn't count.
So, how does a duchess dress for such a special royal occasion? Kate didn't disappoint, of course. Beside the queen, who wore a bubblegum pink ensemble, she opted for a gray Catherine Walker coat, a black Mulberry clutch and an ever-so-regal fascinator. (Aside from the muted color palette, the whole look was very queen-like, don't you think?)
