Today marked the first major outing for the Princess of Wales since announcing completion of her chemotherapy treatments in September. The Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall is a sober affair—specifically a concert held to honor members of the military who have died while serving—and not exactly the place for sartorial risks. And while Kate Middleton’s demure black dress was certainly lovely, it was her millennial-approved hairdo that really caught my eye.
Kate Middleton’s New Look Is Serving Classic Millennial Realness
The millennial vibes are strong
Middleton may not be the most adventurous dresser, but I’ve always loved her ability to mix fashion-forward notes in with her incredibly classic style. Which is why I was surprised to see the Princess with a fresh new ‘do this weekend that is, dare I say, bold? Or about as bold as a member of the royal family might get. Rather than her usual loose waves, she instead embraced a much fuller, bouncier curl and a notably sweeping side part.
That deep side part with a full sweep to the side is the exact hairdo I tried (and failed) regularly to achieve throughout high school and college, and is a far departure from Gen Z’s preferred middle part or beachy texture. While royal family “rules” may not allow the Princess the ability to go all-in with ‘90s/early aughts trends, like skirts over pants or whimsigoth, this throwback beauty moment is exactly the kind of nostalgia hit I love to see.
Might Kate be harkening back to her elder-millennial roots? Or is she also totally obsessed with Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet tour looks? Whatever the case, she looked incredibly gorgeous and I yet again find myself impressed with her knack for always looking spot on, albeit with her signature Middleton twist. I expect the hair tutorials will be hitting social media any minute now...
