Kate Middleton has officially returned to royal duties after completing chemotherapy. The princess’s body language during her recent outings has spoken volumes about her readiness (even if she had to lean on a royal family member for support). And now, the Princess of Wales, 42, is preparing to host “something exciting.”

Princess Catherine will host her annual holiday concert, titled “Together at Christmas,” on December 6 at Westminster Abbey. In honor of the upcoming event, royal expert Katie Nicholl (who’s the author of Kate: The Future Queen) shared never-before-heard details about the upcoming service in an interview with the Royal Exclusive show, including how the ceremony could feature a special “surprise.”

Nicholl explained that the royal’s involvement is a huge deal after the difficult year she’s had. “I feel that the year ends on a note of hope and optimism for her,” the author said. “I think [it’s] hugely, hugely important that she’s able to not just host, but she’s going to attend this event. She’s been working on it behind the scenes.”

Princess Catherine has hosted “Together at Christmas” every year since the inaugural event in 2021. At the time, the Princess of Wales delivered a surprise piano performance during the concert. When asked if history will repeat itself, Nicholl revealed that there’s a chance (albeit small).

“I’m not sure whether she’s going to be involved in the performance at all,” she added. “I mean, we’ve yet to see. The capacity for surprise, never underestimate it.”

Nicholl also predicted that Princess Catherine’s three children—Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6—will attend the event to support their mom. “I’m predicting a big family turnout,” she added. “I think the Middletons will be there. I think the children will be there.”

The author reminded the public that Princess Catherine is in her element. “This is Catherine’s baby. This is very much her thing,” Nicholl explained. “She’s done this for the past four years. She loves it, she’s passionate about it, she’s going to have a great turnout of celebrities. There’s gonna be wonderful music. The Abbey is going to be beautifully dressed for Christmas.”

Nicholl continued, “She looks forward to it—as do the children. I think it’s just a way of ending what has clearly been a very turbulent and difficult year on a high.”

Welcome back, Princess Catherine.
