Kate Middleton Kicks Off Pre-Birthday Celebration with a Couples Trip to Sandringham

Kate Middleton is currently on staycation with her closest friends and family in honor of a super special occasion: her birthday.

Yesterday, the Duchess of Cambridge, 37, and her husband, Prince William, joined Queen Elizabeth in Sandringham for the morning church service at St. Mary Magdalene. Unlike past royal outings, Middleton was accompanied by an entourage of guests, including her parents, Carole and Michael.

During the service, Middleton wore a multi-colored coat that fell just below her knees. She completed the look with heeled brown boots and a blue Fedora by Hicks & Brown, which retails for about $125. Prince William opted for a classic navy-blue suit. (Natch.)

So, why did they invite guests? As it turns out, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are hosting the group at their country home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk. The get-together was arranged to celebrate Middleton’s 38th birthday this Thursday (January 9).

Attendees included Thomas van Straubenzee (one of Princess Charlotte’s godparents) and his fiancée, Lucy Lanigan-O’Keeffe, who is a teacher at Prince George and Char’s school, Thomas’s Battersea.

Lady Laura Meade (one of Prince Louis’s godparents) also attended the festivities alongside her husband, James Meade, who is one of Princess Charlotte’s godparents. Rounding out the group was Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, and her husband, David, the Marquess of Cholmondeley.

It’s (almost) her birthday, and she’ll wear a Fedora if she wants to.
