Wanna Get Married by Jonathan Van Ness? Now You Can

Getting your best friend to officiate your wedding is nice and all but for something extra special, how about enlisting the help of Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness? That’s right, the grooming guru and LGBTQ+ advocate is partnering with Elysian Brewing to champion marriage equality and inclusivity this pride season. (Yaas, queen!)

JVN will marry one lucky couple at the brewing company’s Seattle pub on Tuesday, June 4. (Competition details below.) The date marks the start of pride season and has a significant meaning for the LGBTQ+ community.

In a promo video for the event, Van Ness referenced the Colorado bakery that refused to make a cake for a same-sex couple in 2018.

“Last year, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a cake shop owner who wouldn’t bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple,” he explains. “Thankfully, there are so many businesses that do support the LGBTQ community, because it shouldn’t matter who you are, or who you love.”

The wedding will take place on the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling.

Check out what he has to say about the competition below.

To enter the competition, couples should share their love story via Instagram using #MarryUsJVN and #Contest, while tagging both @ElysianBrewing and @SeattlePride. The competition launched today and runs through Friday, May 10. Learn more about the rules at seattlepride.org

This isn’t the first wedding that JVN has officiated—remember when he wed Doug the Pugs parents?

Elysian is a sponsor of the annual Seattle Pride parade, planned for June 30. And their ale, GLITTER, is the “official brew” of the Seattle Pride parades, according to the brewer. It’s a “creamy ale” that “boasts a fruit-forward character with blackberry and raspberry for extra rainbow flavor.” Sounds pretty delicious to us.
