Chrissy Teigen Reveals Special Meaning Behind Newborn Daughter Esti’s Name

Not too long ago, John Legend shared a sweet story behind the name of his newborn daughter, Esti. Now, Chrissy Teigen is revealing the additional special meaning behind her baby girl’s name.

While appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the mother of three shared how she and her hubby came up with the name for their daughter while vacationing in Europe. “We were on vacation where we got married in Italy and I was looking up at the hotel and I kept seeing the Este of it, and then I was like I love the name Este,” Teigen told Clarkson.

“I was just playing around with it and then we came up with Esti,” she added. Shortly after, the couple discovered the special connection the baby’s name had to their family. 

Teigen explained, “John, after we named her Esti, learned that it was actually his great-grandmother's name. I guess maybe it was Esther and then they turned it to Esti.”

Back in February, Legend discussed the familial connection of the baby’s moniker and revealed the child’s first name, Esti, is an indirect tribute to his great-grandmother. “It turns out, my great-grandmother was named Esther,” he told E! News.

The “All of Me” singer admitted that they didn’t intend to choose a family name. However, when Teigen pitched Esti as a potential baby moniker, they knew it was meant to be. Legend added, “It wasn’t intentionally after someone, but once Chrissy told me that idea, I was like, ‘Oh, my great-grandmother’s name was Esther.’”

Legend also confirmed that the baby’s middle name—Maxine—was inspired by his grandmother. “We wanted to already name her middle name Maxine after my grandmother, whose middle name was Maxine,” the musician continued. “So, it’s a lot of my family in the name.”
