This ‘American Idol’ Proposal Is Giving Us Serious ‘Bachelor’ Vibes

American Idol just took a page out of The Bachelor’s handbook and surprised viewers with an impromptu proposal that we really didn’t need to see.

Here’s what you need to know: The popular competition series is currently in the midst of Hollywood Week, where the judges—Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan—put the contestants through a series of grueling performances to weed out the weaklings.

Right before Johanna Jones took the stage for her solo performance, the 23-year-old singer spoke with producers in an on-air interview and revealed that her boyfriend, Matt, couldn’t make it to Los Angeles because he’s studying for finals.

“He’s the most supportive, loving, awesome guy I’ve ever met,” she said. “I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I think he’s the one. We don’t need to tell him that quite yet—I mean, I don’t know if he knows, but I know.”

After performing a flawless cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” Jones received the surprise of a lifetime when her boyfriend walked onstage and got down on one knee.

“I couldn’t be here because of exams, but I couldn’t wait another day,” he said, unveiling a ring box. “Johanna, you’re the love of my life. Will you marry me?”

Of course, she said “Yes,” and the judges proceed to give her a spot in the top 40.

Talk about a double whammy. American Idol returns to ABC on Sunday, March 31, at 8 p.m.
