Has Joanna Gaines Changed Her Style? I Noticed a Major Shift in Latest Video

It’s no secret that Joanna Gaines has undergone a style transformation over the years, swapping textured walls for textured ceilings and incorporating more color (and less gray). Still, her latest video made me do a double take because I never expected her to abandon her modern farmhouse aesthetic for something so eclectic. Specifically, it seems as though Gaines is embracing neon signage. 

This week, Joanna posted a hilarious video on her Instagram account, featuring her husband, Chip, playing with a lightsaber (because why not?). The clip caught my attention not because of Chip’s silly behavior but due to the massive neon sign on the wall.

It read, “There's so much beauty it could make you cry,” in bright orange and pink letters. I have to admit that while the effect (and message) is uplifting, I was surprised to see it because it goes against Joanna’s entire design aesthetic that typically favors much more natural materials and muted tones.

You see, Joanna is known for her modern farmhouse-style designs that typically involve loads of shiplap, bar doors and open shelves. Neon signs, on the other hand, offer a mix of retro and futuristic vibes, something that Joanna rarely dabbles in. 

Of course, it’s important to note that I don’t know where the video was filmed. It doesn’t look like they’re at their house—instead, it almost looks like they’re in an office, maybe even one they didn’t design. Still, Joanna chose to feature the neon sign in her video, so I must ask: Is this her new design aesthetic?
