Whoa! I Almost Didn’t Recognize Jim Parsons with a Scruffy Beard

Sheldon Cooper, is that you?

I had to do a double take when I saw these brand-new photos of Jim Parsons, who looks nearly unrecognizable with facial hair.

This week, the Big Bang Theory star, 51, attended the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Parsons opted against his usual clean-shaven look and sported a scruffy beard that made him almost unidentifiable. (Key word: almost.)

Parsons revealed that he purposely grew out his facial hair for his current role in the Broadway show Our Town. It all started when he visited his barber and realized that a beard “can change the shape of your face.”

“I grew it knowing that I was going to go into the play,” Parsons told Entertainment Tonight. “The play didn’t need it. Long story short, I had a talk with my barber. I was like, ‘You always have a beard,’ and he was like, ‘Well, I kind of have a weak chin.’”

The actor added, “I was like, ‘I want to try it.’”

Our Town was written by Thornton Wilder and made its Broadway debut in 1938, the same year it won the Pulitzer Prize. Parsons is playing the Stage Manager for a limited time only. His character basically acts as the narrator and guides the audience through the story line, which follows the drama-ridden residents of a small village in New Hampshire.

The beard suits him.
