The One Original ‘Roseanne’ Character You Won’t See in the Reboot

roseanne reboot premier

After a 20-year hiatus, the Conner family returned to our screens last night with an hour-long premiere episode receiving massive ratings.

And while many of our favorite characters were brought back (Roseanne, Dan, Darlene, both Beckys), there was one missing—whatever happened to Jerry Garcia?

Quick recap: Roseanne and Dan’s youngest child, Jerry, was born during the season eight Halloween episode back in 1995. In a dream sequence, Roseanne was visited by the late Grateful Dead singer Jerry Garcia, who inspired her baby’s name. The baby was played by twins Cole and Morgan Roberts, who haven’t had any acting jobs since Roseanne and they probably won’t be coming out of retirement for the reboot, either.

In the premiere episode of season 9, Roseanne explains what happened to Jerry while the family says grace at the table. “Please watch over our son Jerry who’s on that stupid fishing boat, where apparently they don’t get phone calls,” she says.

It isn’t likely that Roseanne’s fourth child will be making an appearance on this season, but series creators are hoping to address Jerry (and also Andy, Jackie’s son) in future seasons.

Following last night’s premiere, eight additional half-hour episodes will air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
