Did Jennifer Lawrence just volunteer as tribute? The 32-year-old actress admitted that she would happily reprise the role of Katniss Everdeen if given the opportunity.
During a new interview with Variety, Lawrence was asked if she would ever star in another Hunger Games film, to which she said, “Oh, my God—totally! If Katniss ever could ever come back into my life, 100 percent.” According to Variety, the star then looked off to the side and said, “My producing partner just clutched her heart.”
Lawrence was being interviewed to promote her upcoming comedy film, No Hard Feelings. However, there is a new Hunger Games prequel on the horizon, titled The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
The Ballad is set to hit theaters on November 17, 2023, and the film is based on Suzanne Collins's novel of the same name. Set 64 years before the events of the first Hunger Games book, the story follows a young Coriolanus Snow and his journey to becoming the tyrannical leader of Panem.
The four original films—The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2—all starred Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci. Meanwhile, Donald Sutherland portrayed President Snow, a role which is being filled by Tom Blyth in the prequel.
Since The Ballad takes place before Katniss is born, the character does not make an appearance in the story. However, since Lawrence is on board, we'll be curious to see if she gets the opportunity to play the role again in the future. *Fingers crossed.*
