Whether she’s mastering a bow and arrow or a Miracle Mop, Jennifer Lawrence has proved there’s basically no role she can’t play. But one major part apparently got away from her: Gossip Girl’s Serena van der Woodsen. Yep, the Mother! actress auditioned for the iconic role at the age of 16 and We. Are. Shook.
Why are we finding this out now? Well, in honor of Gossip Girl’s tenth anniversary today, Josh Schwartz (aka the genius creator behind the likes of The O.C., Chuck and, most important, Gossip Girl) revealed that the Oscar Award-winning actress could have portrayed the bubbly blond party girl in the hit series. “We did not realize this at the time, but Jennifer Lawrence really wanted to play Serena and auditioned. This story came to us secondhand, but we were told she definitely auditioned and was bummed to not get it.”
As for the audition tape, apparently it’s about as memorable as Dylan Hunter Dan Humphrey’s first novel, Inside. Schwartz added, “We can’t remember if we saw it or not. It was ten years ago, and she would’ve been how old, 15?” Sixteen, but we’ll let it slide.
Can we all take a moment to picture J-Law as Serena? Not bad, but we’ll stick with Blake. XOXO, Gossip Girl.
