Jennifer Hudson Just Reached EGOT Status After Winning Her First Tony

Jennifer Hudson just made history as the first American Idol alum to reach EGOT status by winning an Emmy, two Grammys, an Oscar and, most recently, a Tony.

The singer and actress snagged her first Tony this weekend for serving as a producer on Broadway's A Strange Loop. It was the final trophy she needed to join the EGOT club, making her the second Black woman to win all four of these major entertainment awards, after Whoopi Goldberg. It's also worth noting that only 16 other people have accomplished this feat, including Rita Moreno, Andrew Lloyd Webber and John Legend.

In addition to her recent Tony win, Hudson received a Daytime Emmy for serving as an executive producer on Baby Yaga (Outstanding Interactive Media for a Daytime Program), an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Dreamgirls and two Grammy awards for her debut studio album (Best R&B Album) and The Color Purple (Best Musical Theater Album).

Back in 2020, when Hudson was just two steps away from joining the grand slam of show business, she jokingly told People that her pet dogs, better known as her "good luck charms," would help her reach EGOT status.

"I should get two more dogs," she began. "I got a dog and named it Oscar, and then I won my Oscar. And then I got a dog and named it Grammy, and then I won my Grammy. So, I think I should get some dogs and name them Emmy and Tony—and it’ll give me good luck, and I’ll win. [They’re] like my good luck charms.”

Fast-forward to 2022, and the 40-year-old star is not only part of the elite club, but she's also following in Oprah's footsteps with her upcoming talkshow.

Talk about a well-deserved win!
