Jennifer Garner Rocks All Leather and Thigh-High Lace-Up Boots on Throwback Magazine Cover

With red carpet appearances and paparazzi-shot outings still limited due to the pandemic, celebrities have been filing our need for star studded content by revisiting some of their favorite career highs (and lows) in throwback Instagram posts. While Jennifer Garner—queen of the wonderfully weird social media video—usually sticks to old-school photos of her childhood and her look-alike sisters, this week she decided instead to celebrate the 20th anniversary of an old magazine cover. And, whoa baby, is it fire.

Garner posted her 2002 Rolling Stone cover to Instagram with the caption “Twenty years ago this week” alongside an electric guitar emoji and a monkey covering its eyes. The rock-n-roll cover features the 13 Going On 30 actress in a leather crop top, miniskirt and matching thigh-high lace-up boots and would have coincided with the success of season one of Alias, which premiered in late 2001. And while the photo may be 20 years old, the all-leather punk ensemble would absolutely work for a 2022 cover—which Garner would look just as fierce in now as she did then.

In fact, multiple celeb friends weighed in on the wonderful nostalgia of seeing Sydney Bristow once again. Zoe Saldana wrote, “you were one of my idols, still are lady!” and the actress’s buddy Ina Garten said, “How do you still look exactly the same?!!! Gorgeous!” with three heart emojis. Of course, there were also tons of fire emojis to accompany such a badass look.

Last October, the 49-year-old actress reunited with her Alias co-stars Michael Vartan, Gina Torres, Victor Garber, Kevin Weisman and Merrin Dungey to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the premiere of the show and wrote a heartfelt note to her fellow collaborators about how wonderful it was to work on the show for five years. While the series may not be top of the list for possible reboots (at least, not yet), Garner is set to return to the small screen later this year in the revival of another old favorite, Party Down. We’d be surprised if her character, Evie, a successful movie producer going through a tough time, wore anything quite as edgy as Garner’s full leather getup here, but, hey you never know. Leather is trending for 2022, after all...
