Jennifer Garner Says She’d Be 'Proud to Have Ryan Reynolds as a Son'

Next weekend, Netflix will release the new science fiction film, The Adam Project, which sees Ryan Reynolds playing a time-traveling fighter pilot who works with his 12-year-old self to try to save the universe. While we're excited about this film for many reasons, one of its draws is that its decades-spanning storyline allowed for some unusual casting—including Jennifer Garner, who is 49 to Reynolds' 45, in the role of his mom.

At the premiere of The Adam Project in New York, Tommy DiDario from Extra asked Garner if she had ever expected to play The Proposal star's mother. “No, I did not think I would be playing Ryan Reynolds's mom,” Garner said along with a laugh. “But, you know what—I'd be proud to have him for a son.”

While Garner may be a little too close in age to Reynolds to actually be his mother, she is a mom to three children that she shares with Ben Affleck—Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Sam, 10.

When asked by DiDario if her kids would be watching The Adam Project, Garner said, “Of course, they'll see it if they want to. They don't always like to watch me in stuff, but this one I think they will.” She added, “I cannot wait to watch it with them and with my parents.”

In addition to playing Reynolds's mother, Garner also got to reunite with her former 13 Going on 30 co-star, Mark Ruffalo, marking the first time since their hit 2004 rom-com that the pair, who plays husband and wife, has worked together.

We'll be counting down the days until The Adam Project's premiere on March 11!
