Remember Jelly Nails? They’re Back—but with a Cool, Nostalgic Update

Remember glass nails? A few years ago, they were the “it” manicure—named for their shattered-glass-like effect, of course. Then, in summer 2018, it was suddenly the season of the jelly nail. Now there’s something new adorning the nails of cool girls everywhere, and it’s surprisingly familiar.

Meet jelly nail 2.0. It's like if glass nails and last year's transparent look had a shiny, iridescent baby.

Nail technician Jane Safarian, who’s been spearheading the popular look, shared with Allure that her jelly nails were inspired by nail artist Park Eunkyung's iridescent glass nails. Combining a negative space mani with the transparent trend, she ended up with something that looks a little like stained glass and a lot like those sparkly plastic jelly sandals we wore when we were 12.

To get the look, Safarian blends multiples hues of sheer nail polish to create an ombré jelly base. She then tops the nails with pieces of iridescent film cut in random geometric shapes, finishing it up with a top coat.

We might not be able to rock jelly sandals as adults, but this is the next best thing. (You know, until a new nail trend comes along.)
