This Big Name Late Night TV Show Host Is Stepping Down

James Gorden is officially leaving The Late Late Show? Say it isn’t so.

The late-night host announced that he will be stepping down from the talk show before the summer of 2023.

The British actor has been hosting the show for seven-and-a-half years now. The show was previously hosted by Craig Ferguson and Corden took on the hosting gig in March 2015. But, Corden is not leaving the show just yet. He signed an extension contract with the network, so he will be around for one more year.

Corden recently sat down with Deadline and revealed the reason behind his departure. “It’s been a really hard decision to leave because I’m so immensely proud of the show,” he told the outlet. “I always thought I’d do it for five years and then leave, and then I stayed on. I’ve really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure.”

The Cats actor also discussed the news in last night’s episode. “When I started this journey, it was always going to be just that,” he told the audience. “It was going to be a journey, an adventure. I never saw it as my final destination, you know?”

He reassured viewers that he will make sure the show goes out with a “bang,” which was met with loud applause. “We are determined to make this the best year we have ever had,” he added. “The next 12 months are going to be a blast, I promise you that.”

So, does this mean no more Carpool Karaoke?
