It's official! Team USA just won gold in the team event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

After dominating at the Olympic gymnastics qualifying round, Simone Biles and the U.S. women's gymnastics team struck again with standout routines during the team final. Together, they earned a total score of 171.296, putting them 5.802 points ahead of Italy, who landed in second place. Meanwhile, Brazil took home the bronze, earning their first-ever Olympic team medal.

During the qualifying round, Biles suffered a minor calf injury, but it didn't stop her from soaring ahead of the competition at the finals. In case you missed it, the 27-year-old was the final gymnast to complete the fourth and final rotation. To help the team reclaim the gold, she only needed to register a single-figure score.

Fortunately, Biles delivered a stunning, gravity-defying floor routine that was met with the biggest applause, and she earned a score of 14.666.

At one point, Jordan Chiles's fall off the beam in the third rotation caused some to worry about the team's chances, but thankfully, Suni Lee's effortless routine got the team back on track. And things only went uphill from there, from Lee's impressive vault routine to Jordan Chiles's sassy floor exercise.

With her latest victory, Biles is now officially the most decorated American gymnast in the history of the Olympic Games. With eight medals under her belt (five of which are gold), she has surpassed Shannon Miller.

At the Olympic trials in Minneapolis, Biles reflected on last year's Olympic Games and said in a statement, “I feel like we all have more to give and our Tokyo performances weren’t the best. We weren’t under the best circumstances, either, but I feel like we have a lot of weight on our shoulders to go out there and prove that we’re better athletes.”

Well, it looks like Team USA understood the assignment. Major congrats on the gold!
