Ina Garten loves to post a throwback photo, so if you follow her on Instagram, you’ve likely seen images from her wedding in 1968. But she just posted a new picture that shows off her full wedding gown, and it’s nothing like her usual chambray uniform.
Ina Garten Shares a Throwback Wedding Photo with Her Dad (and Her ’60s Dress Is Stunning)
Plus details about her past
In the picture, Garten is seen walking down the aisle in a sheer veil and a high neck white gown made from what appears to be a heavy-weight brocade fabric (fitting for a December 22 wedding). The silhouette is simple, but the fur-trimmed sleeves give it a 1960s flair. As one commenter put it: “Beautiful. Ali MacGraw vibes. Classic.”
This time, the reason for the Instagram post wasn’t to celebrate her marriage to hubby Jeffrey (although they’re on year 55 and still going strong), but to commemorate Father’s Day, which was on June 16, 2024. In the image, Garten’s father, Charles H. Rosenberg, walks alongside her in full tails—top hat included.
“My dad and I had a complicated relationship when I was young,” Ina shared in the caption, “but once I got married, we were able to change that. I’m really grateful for the positive happy times that we spent together, and thinking back he had a huge influence on my life. I think that we’re very much alike. He loved parties, loved his work, treasured his friends and cared about style. Happy Father’s Day, it’s a good day to celebrate fathers present and past.”
Sharing even more about her personal life, Garten recently spoke with Julia Louis-Dreyfus on her podcast, Wiser Than Me, about how her less-than-ideal upbringing influenced her decision to not have kids: “I had no interest in having children. None. I just had a terrible childhood, and it was nothing I wanted to recreate,” Garten said.
Will Ina reveal more details about her childhood in her upcoming memoir? Guess we’ll have to wait until October 1—when the book is published—to find out.
