Welcome Back to Hogwarts! A ‘Harry Potter’ Series Is Coming to HBO Max

Although our chances of getting an acceptance letter from Hogwarts are getting slimmer by the day, we've got some exciting news that just might make up for it.

HBO Max just confirmed that it's developing a seven-season Harry Potter series for the company’s new streaming service, Max. (Bloomberg reported the news earlier this month, but the network hadn’t confirmed the announcement.) Each season will be based on one of J.K. Rowling's novels.

“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” said Casey Bloys (chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content). “Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.”

Rowling will serve as an executive producer on the brand-new series. This comes as no surprise because she had similar behind-the-scenes roles for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (parts one and two). She also wrote and co-produced all three of the Fantastic Beasts spinoff films.

Per Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav revealed that HBO's Harry Potter reboot is a top priority. He said, “We’re going to focus on franchises. We haven’t had a Superman movie in 13 years. We haven’t done a Harry Potter in 15 years. The DC movies and the Harry Potter movies provided a lot of the profits for Warner Bros…over the past 25 years.”

Sounds like we're one step closer to revisiting Hogwarts—and we couldn't be more stoked.
