Aging can be a tough thing to grapple with, especially when you're doing it in the limelight. However, in a new profile for Women's Health, Halle Berry, 56, talked about becoming her “best self” in her fifties, and she took the opportunity to challenge many of the misconceptions we have about getting older, menopause and more.
Halle Berry Talks Being 56: ‘I Have the Most to Offer. I Have Zero Blanks to Give Anymore’
“We can make talking about women’s health issues less taboo by daring to talk about it,” Berry told Women's Health editor-in-chief Liz Plosser. “Community is the entrée into understanding. We're all going through it. And we learn from one another when we talk about it, when we become curious, and when we share with each other what we're going through.”
Berry touched on the fact that she's “smack dab” in the middle of menopause and she said she's had to overcome many of the negative connotations associated with it. “I'm challenging all those stereotypes about how you have to look a certain way or feel a certain way,” Berry said. “I'm my best self now that I reached 56 years old. I have the most to offer. I have zero blanks to give anymore. I'm solidly in my womanhood. I finally realize what I have to say is valuable, even if no one else agrees.”
What's Berry's best advice for women, at any age? “Be clear about who you are and how you wanna live your life because it's yours and yours alone to live,” the Bruised director says. “Own wherever you are.”
Wherever she is in her journey, the Ohio native certainly hasn't slowed down when it comes to her career. In addition to her directorial debut with Bruised, Berry signed with Range Media Partners this past January as a producer and director. She has also appeared in a number of major films in the past few years, including Moonfall, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Kings.
We love you, Halle.
