It’s official: The Platinum Jubilee weekend in honor of Queen Elizabeth marking 70 years on the throne has begun! The first royals we spotted along the Trooping the Colour parade route? The Cambridges—Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to be exact, exiting the gates of Buckingham Palace and riding together with Camilla Parker-Bowles in a horse-drawn carriage.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte & Prince Louis Make Their Trooping the Colour Debut (& Steal the Royal Show)
Still, this is not your average royal sighting: In fact, this marks the very first time the Cambridge children have participated in Queen Elizabeth’s birthday parade. (They’ve been on the balcony before, but never alongside their parents for the Trooping the Colour processional.)
No surprise here, but the royal children stole the show: George, 8, looked extra spiffed up in a formal suit while Charlotte, 7, wore a blue dress with sheer fluttering sleeves. As for Prince Louis, 4, he donned a classic sailor outfit, which appears to be the same one worn by Prince William in 1985. TBH, all three looked like they could use pairs of sunglasses to help shield the glare as they rode along looking straight into the London sunshine, but that didn’t prevent their excitement as they waved enthusiastically to the crowds.
As for Middleton, she also dressed to impress, wearing a white ensemble by Alexander McQueen (a royal repeat!) and a white and blue Philip Treacy hat. Prince William had a much more formal role this year, following closely behind the carriage on horseback with his dad Prince Charles and aunt Princess Anne.
For the record, Prince William was almost five years old when he participated in his very first Trooping the Colour parade in 1987 alongside Princess Diana.
Cheers to a weekend of royal Cambridge kid sightings.
