Biopics are certainly not a groundbreaking concept, but next up on the list? Rocketman—a new (
Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) will portray Reginald Dwight (yeah, that’s John’s real name) as he transforms from ashy piano prodigy to one of the most iconic performers of all time in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Directed by Dexter Fletcher, the film also stars Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as John’s manager and partner John Reid, Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot) as his lyricist and writing partner Bernie Taupin and Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World) as his mother.
The film is described as an “epic musical fantasy,” and it’s clear by this trailer (and the teaser) that that’s exactly what audiences are going to get. The short clip already features two classics: “Benny and the Jets” and “Tiny Dancer.” So yeah, we’re expecting some epic concert scenes, more flashy costumes and of course, a whole lot of fun. Anyone else getting some serious Bohemian Rhapsody vibes?
Rocketman (tiny) dances into theaters May 17, 2019.
