There’s a Female-Led ‘The Fast and the Furious’ Spin-off in the Works—and Here’s What We Know

It looks like the The Fast and the Furious franchise isn’t slowing down anytime soon (why should it?). It’s been vastly successful since the first film in 2001, and now, we might even be getting a female-led spin-off.

Early Thursday, actor and The Fast and the Furious star Vin Diesel posted on Instagram with a pitch for a female-protagonist-driven film for the franchise.

The 51-year-old actor wrote in the caption, “As you know, there are three new spin offs that We have promised Universal… well this week we heard a pitch for the Fast female protagonist driven spinoff I created in 2017, and you can tell by the smile on Samantha’s face it was VERY exciting. Shout out to Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Welcome to the Fast FAMILY…”

Although little (to nothing) is known about the film, it seems like things are really in the works. Will the film center around Michelle Rodriguez’s character Letty (umm, we hope so)? The original franchise has already seen some powerful (not to mention bada**) women come and go—Gal Gadot, Nicole Perlman and Eva Mendes to name a few. So we can only hope to see them back for this one.

The film is not to be confused with Hobbs and Shaw, a different Fast and the Furious–universe film centered around Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s characters (due out in August). Oh, and did he say there’s going to be a third spin-off?

Yeah, this crew will definitely be busy for a while.
