So, what happened?

No, you’re not the only one who noticed Ryan Gosling didn’t walk the 2024 Oscars red carpet with his wife, Eva Mendes. Instead, the Barbie star was accompanied by his sister, Mandi Gosling. So, what’s the reason behind Mendes’s absence?

Though Mendes didn’t go into detail about her whereabouts for the evening, she did post a video of herself standing outside of her hubby’s dressing room for the Oscars. While sporting a classic denim-on-denim look with a black cap, the Hitch alum smiles at the camera and adjusts her hat. In the caption, she wrote, “Always by my man.”

In the comments section, her fans shared how much they missed her on the 2024 Oscars red carpet. One person wrote, “But we need you on the red carpet,” alongside crying emojis. Another commenter said, “Omg hoping to see you two together!!! Even though I know it’s not really your thing but hey we can hope right? Lol.”

As one follower pointed out, Mendes and Gosling rarely accompany each other to red-carpet events. During the Barbie press tour, a follower of Mendes wrote on her Instagram page (which was shared by Women’s Day), “I really hope Barbie will get through the awards season just to see you w Ryan.”

While thanking the commenter for their “cool comment,” the actress responded, “We don’t do those things together. Like these photos I’ve been posting, I’m only comfortable posting because it’s already out there.”

Then Mendes clarified,  “Oh, wait—for those who may catch me in a ‘lie’—we only were on the red carpet together once when promoting this film.” FYI, the movie she was referring to was the couple’s 2012 film, The Place Beyond the Pines, where they first met and started dating.

Well, that explains a lot.
