Everything You Need to Know About Emmy Rossum’s ‘Shameless’ Departure

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

Last night, Fiona Gallagher (Emmy Rossum) took her final bow after nine successful seasons of Shameless. Here’s what you need to know about the character’s departure.

On the season nine finale, titled “Home,” Fiona becomes less involved with the kids as Debbie (Emma Kenney) steps up to help. After Fiona’s court case is dismissed (you know, from when she punched a female neighbor in the face in episode ten of this season), she realizes that nothing is tying her to Chicago.

When her lawyer encourages her to “leave this Southside hoodrat crap behind,” she visits Ian (Cameron Monaghan) in prison and reveals she’s leaving.

“Somewhere near the equator. I’m sick of winters, ice and sleet and freezing my a** off,” she says.

Ian’s response? “You deserve it. You should go as far away as you can,” he says before adding, “I’ll always be here for you. Always.”

Back at home, Debbie and Lip (Jeremy Allen White) are surprised to find Fiona packing. Although they decide to throw her a farewell party, Fiona takes it upon herself to leave while they’re out getting supplies.

Before heading out, Fiona leaves Debbie with a check for $50,000.

So, where did Fiona jet off to? And is Debbie ready for her new role as matriarch? Guess we’ll have to wait until season ten of Shameless premieres on Showtime.
