Duchess Sophie Makes Surprise Appearance—But Something Major Stood Out to Me (Besides Her Skinny Jeans)

Keep up the great work, Sophie

Duchess Sophie’s skinny jeans weren’t the only thing that caught my attention during the royal’s latest outing.

The duchess has been quite busy as of late, whether it's making a genuine show of support for Kate Middleton (who just returned to the public eye sporting a very millennial look) or showing off her fab and fun suede boots.

This week, the Duchess of Edinburgh, surprised a young girl with cerebral palsy named Emily, who challenged herself to complete The Long Walk in Windsor (which is a 2.6-mile tree-lined avenue). The royal joined Emily on the final stretch of her journey and walked alongside her in a casual pair of skinny jeans.

Denim aside, the one thing that stands out to me is the duchess’s incredible empathy. The royal displays such grace and support while chatting with Emily. The video is so raw and beautiful, it’s hard to not get choked up while watching it.

After introducing herself, Duchess Sophie offers some words of encouragement. “You’re doing amazingly well,” she says in the clip. “It is a very tough place to walk because it’s all in a straight line. So you can see it, and it doesn't feel like it’s getting any shorter.”

The royal shows genuine interest in Emily’s well-being, adding, “And tell me, how are your legs feeling?”

Duchess Sophie also raises awareness about cerebral palsy by asking a thought-provoking question. She says, “Do you think a lot of things in terms of perception and visibility of disability have changed during your lifetime at all?”

Take a bow, Duchess Sophie.
