Fans have been looking forward to Kate Middleton’s annual holiday concert for weeks. Although the service won’t air on TV until Christmas Eve, photos are already surfacing online because the event was filmed ahead of time. Not only did Princess Catherine display super-telling body language, but her two sons—Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, 6—were also the spitting image of their dad, Prince William. I was so distracted by the Wales family that I nearly missed this cameo by an underrated royal.
I Was So Distracted by Prince Louis and Kate Middleton Today That I Almost Missed This Royal Sitting Next to Them
She practically snuck in
Today, the royal family arrived at Westminster Abbey for Princess Catherine’s annual holiday concert, titled “Together at Christmas.” With so much attention on the Princess of Wales, Duchess Sophie of Edinburgh completely flew under the radar.
The royal nearly went unnoticed when she arrived at the event, casually walking by photographers before entering the building. She even sat next to Princess Catherine during the service. The duchess was wearing a white jacket, a patterned skirt and suede boots.
This isn’t the first time the Duchess of Edinburgh has flown under the radar. The same thing happened earlier this week when Duchess Sophie attended an event at Buckingham Palace in honor of Their Highnesses The Amir and Sheikha Jawaher of Qatar.
All eyes were on Princess Catherine (who’s been easing back into royal duties after her cancer diagnosis and preventative chemotherapy)—so much so that I nearly missed Duchess Sophie standing mere feet away. There’s even a photo from the welcoming event showing Catherine and Sophie, alongside their husbands, viewing a display of Qatari artifacts from the Royal Collection and Turquoise Mountain Foundation in Buckingham Palace’s Picture Gallery.
Duchess Sophie knows how to blend in when necessary.
