Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, is a royal that tends to fly a bit more under the radar, sartorially speaking, but whether she’s donning a cornflower blue coat or carrying a pretty two-tone bag, we’re always in awe of her quiet elegance—and this week is no exception. For an occasion at Edinburgh Castle, Sophie stepped out wearing the it color of the season, butter yellow, and a royal repeat (the ‘Yahvi’ dress from Beulah London, which she also wore to Trooping the Colour). Still, it’s the way she wore it that’s turning heads—and we can’t wait to copy her style.

Sophie paired her yellow long-sleeve style with a full-length Max Mara trench coat in a neutral tone. If you ask us, this color combo together is magic—and really makes the buttery hue pop. It also proves that, much like Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Edinburgh, has her finger on the pulse of what’s trending. Butter yellow—but also pastels in general. (Let’s just say the late Queen Elizabeth II would approve.)
As for the occasion? Sophie—who is married to Prince Edward—was on hand to represent the royal family as she led celebrations for the 2027 Tour de France launch. While there, it was revealed that the U.K. will host the Grand Depart for both the 2027 Tour de France and the Tour de France Femme. (Outfit aside, the night looked to be a ton of fun.)
But back to her look: Sophie’s sartorial effort solidified our own interest in adding butter yellow (plus, a cream-colored trench) to our closet. Just in case you’re shopping, too, we pulled a couple of options below.

Ethereal and elegant—just like Sophie.
2. Misook Diamond Pointelle Knit Dress

The hem is a bit shorter, but it still would look chic with a trench.
3. Reformation Abbott Knit Dress

How cute is this off-the-shoulder moment? A variation, but in the same on-trend hue.

Now, if only Sophie had worn her ensemble with a cherry red shoe—that would have really been a royal lewk.
