Holy Lady Mary! The ‘Downton Abbey’ Movie Could Already Be Getting a Sequel

Typically, when a movie sequel is announced, we'll roll our eyes harder than Lady Edith while Mary is being a huge pain in the arse... Do we really need High Octane 7? Probs not.

But when it comes to Downton Abbey, we could watch 1,000 Christmas-special episodes and still crave more Edwardian era pomp and circumstance

Luckily, series creator Julian Fellowes saved the day when he announced a Downton Abbey movie last year, due out September 20, that would pick up where the beloved Masterpiece TV show left off. The movie, which takes place in 1927 (one year after the PBS show), focuses on a visit from King George V and Queen Mary (aka Queen Elizabeth’s grandparents) to Downton Abbey— but this might not be the last we hear from the Crawley clan.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Fellowes and movie director Michael Engler were asked about a sequel...because we all know the movie, starring familiar faces like Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess, Hugh Bonneville as Earl of Grantham, Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary, Matthew Goode as Henry Talbot and many more, will always leaving us wanting more Downton.

“I think there always is potential,” Engler said, though he was clear that the movie doesn't end with a cliffhanger (thank God). Ring for Carson, because we're throwing a party at the Abbey in celebration!

“For me now to say, ‘Absolutely, definitely this is it, there will never be another film,’ I would just be foolish. Because you end up eating your words, you know?" Fellowes said. "I mean, I wouldn’t mind making another film. We were very happy making this one. So let’s see what happens.”

“How many movies were there of Star Wars? This could run and run," joked Bonneville, who stars as Robert Crawley, patriarch of the Grantham estate.

Dad jokes! From the Earl! Our British-high-society-loving hearts cannot handle this.

OMG! A 'Downton Abbey' Escape Room Exists, and the Wall of Bells Is Part of the Game
