Typically, when a movie sequel is announced, we'll roll our eyes harder than Lady Edith while Mary is being a huge pain in the arse... Do we really need High Octane 7? Probs not.
But when it comes to Downton Abbey, we could watch 1,000 Christmas-special episodes and still crave more Edwardian era pomp and circumstance.
Luckily, series creator Julian Fellowes saved the day when he announced a Downton Abbey movie last year, due out September 20, that would pick up where the beloved Masterpiece TV show left off. The movie, which takes place in 1927 (one year after the PBS show), focuses on a visit from King George V and Queen Mary (aka Queen Elizabeth’s grandparents) to Downton Abbey— but this might not be the last we hear from the Crawley clan.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Fellowes and movie director Michael Engler were asked about a sequel...because we all know the movie, starring familiar faces like Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess, Hugh Bonneville as Earl of Grantham, Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary, Matthew Goode as Henry Talbot and many more, will always leaving us wanting more Downton.
