Did you know The Piano Lesson was a family affair behind the scenes? In fact, Denzel Washington worked alongside all four of his children—John David (39), Katia (36), Malcolm (33) and Olivia (33)—on the upcoming project.
All 4 of Denzel Washington’s Kids Are Working on the Same Movie Together—and It Sounds Like a Must-See
It's a family affair
The Piano Lesson is an adaptation of the 1987 play by August Wilson, and it is premiering in theaters on November 8 before hitting Netflix on November 22. The upcoming film is written and directed by Washington’s youngest son, Malcolm, and stars Samuel L. Jackson, Danielle Deadwyler and—you guessed it—Malcolm’s older brother, John David.
Malcolm’s younger sister, Olivia, also appears in the film, but she has a much smaller role as young Mama Ola. But that’s not all. Malcolm’s older sister, Katia, also serves as an executive producer alongside her father.
The Piano Lesson takes place in Pittsburgh in 1936, shortly after the conclusion of the Great Depression. It focuses on a family who cherish an heirloom piano that features carvings from an enslaved relative.
This isn’t the first time that Denzel has worked with his children (and it certainly won’t be the last). He has worked with his kids on numerous occasions, including The Equalizer and The Little Things. However, this is the first time the entire Washington family has teamed up, so it’s bound to be a blockbuster.
