If you loved Dax Shepard (Crosby Braverman) on Parenthood, then prepare to be shook, because the 44-year-old actor originally turned down the role to be closer to Kristen Bell. (Yep, you read that right.)
In a recent episode of Shepard’s podcast Armchair Expert, the host revealed that he initially passed on the opportunity. Why? Because it shot in Philadelphia, and he didn’t want to be away from his wife, 38.
“I got offered Parenthood—I hadn’t acted in a long time, no one was offering me anything and they said, ‘This show shoots in Philadelphia’ and I said, ‘There’s no way I can be in this relationship and move to Philadelphia,’” he said. “I turned that show down—which, by the way, is certainly the first time in my life that I had ever done that…I couldn’t believe I was doing it.”
When production caught wind of Shepard’s decision (along with other actors hesitant to move to Philly), they decided to switch gears and move the show’s basecamp to Los Angeles, allowing the actor to accept the role without any hesitations.
